Cartuber Explains Postmodernism Better Than Jordan Peterson

Jordan Peterson

As of this writing, I’m going through this 3-hour epic on lobster enthusiast Jordan B. Peterson, Canada’s benzo-addled middle child. Mind you, I’m not 100% a JP hater as I like it whenever he plies his actual field of expertise. I even find his lectures and interviews insightful. However, he’s insufferable whenever he delves into subjects outside his scope. Whether we like it or not, he’s a leading thinker in today’s world due to his online influence. After years of teetering between respect, indifference, and skepticism for Dr. Peterson, here’s my blog post about him. (more…)

Know Your Strengths, Stick To Them, and Don’t Be an Asshole

The Modern Martial Artist vs. Rhythm Boxing

There’s drama brewing in the space I least expect it from — the YouTube fight analysis space. It’s a niche full of martial arts nerds like me and it’s usually a place of learning and sharing. However, the temptation of being seen as an all-knowing god can be too much for some, leading to plagiarism and grandstanding. That was the case for Rhythm Boxing, which I’ve since unsubscribed from upon learning of their immature response to The Modern Martial Artist, one of the best fight analysis channels out there. (more…)

Half-Life VR, But the AI is Self-Aware: Gordon’s Madness

Half-Life VR, But the AI is Self-Aware

The ongoing COVID-19 lockdown here in Metro Manila has been hard on everyone, including the loser shut-in who wrote this post. Yes, even I am starting to crack, so much that I’ve started writing on this blog again. What has kept me going lately is the content I’ve been consuming on YouTube, and one of those is this insane masterpiece called Half-Life VR, But the AI is Self-Aware by wayneradiotv. (more…)

Gamechamp3000 — The World’s Craziest Man

Gamechamp3000

There are plenty of YouTube channels out there where people do mad stuff in video games. Most of it is stuff like crazy plays, speedruns, and 100% completions. That’s fine because while they’re hard, they’re still humanly possible. But when it gets to this level of absurd, then it deserves a special mention. Gamechamp3000 does things in games that sane people will never want to do. (more…)

A Brief Look at Etika and the Venus Project

Etika and Venus Project Founder Jacque Fresco

The suicide of Daniel Desmond Amofah, better known as Etika, has become a hot topic a few weeks ago. As his personal belongings, and then his body, were found along the East River, more information on his mental state and prior activities were brought to light, including his membership in an organization I first heard of in an infamous series of documentaries. (more…)

Fighting in the Age of Loneliness — Martial Melancholy

Fighting in the Age of Loneliness on SB Nation

I’ve been binge-watching videos on the SB Nation YouTube channel and related channels, specifically ones produced by SB Nation Labs creative director Jon Bois. There’s also the Deep Rewind series, which is also fascinating, even if it involved sports I don’t give two shits about. Recently, he came out with a five-part documentary series called “Fighting in the Age of Loneliness.” I watched it as it came out and am pretty depressed now because of it. (more…)

What is the Objective of My YouTube Channels?

YouTube

Since it’s still January and I’ve had a pretty good start this 2018, here’s another update of sorts. I swear this is the last site update I’ll post for a long while. It’s just that I felt I needed to put into writing what I have in mind for the two YouTube channels I run. Never mind that having two channels spreads me thin, but each do have its own purpose and goal. I wish to expound on that here, explaining the rationale behind having two of them and what I aim to accomplish with each. (more…)

Oxhorn — Telling the Stories of the Fallout Franchise

Oxhorn

There are a number of YouTube channels out there focused on either a specific game, franchise, publisher, or genre. I call them “game coverage channels,” which are great for those with more specific tastes in games. In this case, Oxhorn is a Fallout channel, which already makes it interesting for a CRPG fan like me. However, what makes this one stand out among its counterparts is its sheer quality. (more…)

Bathos, Sincerity, and Viewing Precaution

Doctor Strange donning the Cloak of Levitation

There’s this thing with Marvel movies I couldn’t put my finger on until now. I had previously reviewed Doctor Strange and thought that while it was good, it wasn’t the best and was even generic in tone. It seems that there’s something about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s signature style of storytelling that combines seriousness with levity, which worked for a good while. However, something recently came up that may put a damper on its current and upcoming films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming. (more…)

Watching Videos About Dead Malls

Dead Malls

Every now and then, people tend to find something on YouTube that becomes a strange obsession for the next few weeks. Plenty are into videos featuring things like pimple popping or creepy stuff, which are indeed unusually fascinating for various reasons. At one time, I got quite into videos of Slavs being Slav, which I’m still into but am no longer fully obsessed with. As of this writing, what I watch with great frequency are videos of dead malls. (more…)

Two Instances When the Jimquisition Hits Home

The Jimquisition

As the title may indirectly suggest, I’m a regular viewer of The Jimquisition, which is independent games journalist Jim Sterling’s weekly YouTube show. While a lot of it is him getting people rabidly enraged with his opinions, as well as his distinct style of delivery and propensity to tell his audience to thank divine providence for his existence, he often covers stories unlike those tackled by most of games media. He can get quite deep into even what seems pedestrian at first, like these two Jimquisitions I’m about to talk about. (more…)

Channel Update — September 2016

Avoiderdragon

Putting out an update video when the YouTube channel barely has anything may seem ill-advised since there’s barely anything to update on or require any sort of housekeeping. It does end up being about promises to upload more videos, but I did have to start somewhere. Since I’ve been trying to take content creation more seriously, even with YouTube attempting to impose its own PG era, then I might as well go all out and “fake it till I make it.” (more…)
