This blog post is cutting it really close in looking like a self-help piece. I’m not Tony Robbins who tells people how to accomplish their goals or Robert Kiyosaki who rebukes their fathers for staying poor. While I don’t have the business acumen to tell you how to multiply your money or the wisdom to show how to find inner peace, I do have some ideas on a system for living a more well-rounded life by focusing on a set of skills that best fit every aspect of your being. This has been on my checklist for a long time now, even before I posted “The Apparent Dichotomy of Skill and Luck in Games” that tackles the topic of how different games are affected by different levels of skill and luck. This time, it’s all about luck, or more of the false perception of luck in various instances when victory comes from a seemingly unlikely instance. Most people would call them “lucky shots” — many of which are not as lucky as they would like to think. This may be a new flash to some people, but they can be practiced. (more…)
In The Co-Optional Podcast Episode 56, the guest Babylonian (formerly of Rev3Games) discussed the relationship between skill and luck when Hearthstone was brought up, which piqued my interest in the subject. It touched upon the competitive aspects of games, whether tabletop or digital. This, along with having gone on a bit of a tirade about Five Nights at Freddy’s in a Facebook thread, pushed me to look deeper into this subject. (more…)
