Ip Man 3 Review — Donnie and Mikey Playing Knuckle Tag

Ip Man 3 starring Donnie Yen

While Ip Man 3 had been out and passed by the time of this writing, I felt compelled to put something out about this movie. Perhaps it’s my martial artist side that kept me on this, or it could be my (failed) filmmaker side. In any case, it’s a good thing that I stayed with it since I feel that this movie deserved a look regardless. It does well as the final installment of the series, with a good bit of thought put into its production. (more…)

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Review

Despite all the negative press it was getting on release, I was able to bite the bullet and see this movie due to a friend’s invitation. I can say that while it’s not exactly the flat bomb that most were expecting (especially when people heard that the Batmobile had machineguns), it’s not that much of a pleasant surprise either. There’s quite a bit that must be sifted through in order to properly judge it, or at least my subjective experience of it. (more…)

Kung Fury — A Love Letter to Inner Childishness

When the trailer for Kung Fury first came out, it was already enough to make testicles explode all over the Internet. It had all the good stuff — impossible physics, kung fu, time travel, scratchy video quality, vikings with machineguns, Hitler doing Tae Bo, the MicroBee, and tons of desert chrome. It was one of those Kickstarter projects that seemed too good to be true, and it even more seemed so like those other 2012 Kickstarters when things quieted down after the initial hype. Lucy [Review]

This wasn’t meant to be posted at first as I had watched Lucy when I thought the hype train had already gone past. However, I was kind of forced to watch it again by friends and I felt compelled to finish this review. This seems like what happens when a teenager sees Fight Club for the first time, then plays the game Prototype, and writes his own movie script. (more…)
