Judging from my last post on this blog, I’ve let nine months of 2026 pass me by. Only now have I started to pick things up and put them back together, enough to think of writing and making stuff again. While it hasn’t been a complete waste of time, I have to admit that I lost the groove I was on in 2025, and I now have to work on getting my mojo back for the rest of the year.
All is not lost as I’ve stayed busy throughout the year. I lost 20 pounds since late last year, and I’m now healthier than I’ve been for the past fifteen years. I worked a ton of wrestling shows, although I still see plenty of room for improvement. I also learned quite a few things in the meantime, and I may pull the trigger on pursuing an unconventional goal.
There are also a few life things I need to take care of. In the meantime, I’d like to sort out this blog and get back to writing.
Should I Keep the Reviews?
They’re sporadic, I’ve mostly stopped doing them since I stopped writing for money, and I never really knew what I was doing anyway. I’ve always thought of it as writing exercises rather than serious reviews. I can still write reviews, but perhaps I can get rid of the old WordPress plugin for the scores I paid $30 for many years ago since it doesn’t get updates anymore.
The one thing that will stick with me is how I defined every score out of ten, from 10 being sublime; the difference between 9, 8, and 7 as degrees of goodness; the difference between ‘fair’ and ‘mediocre’ between 6 and 5; 4 being ‘disappointing’; the difference between 3, 2, and 1 in degrees of badness; and 0 being a score for absolutely nothing.
I refused to use decimals because in my pursuit of creating an “objective” scoring system, I wanted every point to be specifically defined and the whole thing to be limited to ten points. What’s in between ‘fair’ and ‘mediocre’? What’s the gradient between ‘amazing’, ‘great’, and ‘good’? What’s the gradient between ‘bad’, ‘trash’, and ‘dogshit’?
Maybe someone out there has a better idea. I don’t — I’m confused enough as is.
The blog has become a repository of personal essays and compilations of stuff I’ve been learning for the past few years. I’d like to keep going with that, so I may have to completely decouple it from its former identity as a geek blog. Let’s see how it goes. Maybe someday, I’ll learn how to write like a big boy.
