Focus on What’s Needed, Not What Looks Good

Retsu Unohana and Dennis Rodman

While watching random videos on YouTube out of boredom, I stumbled across this short scene from Bleach. The anime series has gotten a restart thanks to Tite Kubo finally putting the finishing touches to his long-neglected work. Part of that should be the long-awaited reveal of the kindly medic Retsu Unohana as the first Kenpachi, the deadliest swordsman ever. While she had been a killer of many in the past, she chose to be a healer in this timeline. Why? (more…)

My Top 2 Games of 2021

2021

This is not really much of a blog post, but I had to post something to get things started. I only played two new games in 2021, and one of them isn’t even fully released yet. 2021 was a garbage year meant for garbage thoughts and garbage feelings. It got somewhat optimistic at the tailend of it, but then had to cap it off with things going back to the “new normal.” Of course, it had to be during the Holidays when Omicron would strike. This goes on and on in this mandatory yet late year-end blog post. (more…)

Technique and Conditioning: Two Sides of the Same Coin

Usyk vs Joshua & Volkanovski vs Ortega

Two exciting championship fights in two different combat sports with different results took place last weekend. One fight had a more skilled fighter dismantle a bigger and stronger opponent to become a new champion. The other fight saw a better conditioned athlete shake off everything his opponent could threw at him and set a blistering pace every round to retain his title.

You Train Martial Arts, But You’re Scared of Vaccines?

Anti-Vaxx

Remember how sad it was when Future Trunks told everyone that Goku was going to die not in battle against the Androids, but from a disease? The strongest warrior in the universe, the protector of Earth, and a picture of superhuman health, killed by illness. This is what has been happening to a lot of people recently due to this blasted pandemic, including martial artists and tough guys of all sorts who think COVID-19 is either an imaginary problem or an opponent they can knock out or submit on their own. Rapoo C270L Webcam Review

Welcome to the first product review on this blog. I’m still learning how to properly pull off the format, but it has been fun so far. I’ll be doing this for whatever stuff I buy from now on. In this case, I bought a new webcam for streaming and filming overhead shots, and I chose to buy a fairly affordable one from a Chinese brand on Shopee instead of Logitech or Razer. So far, I think I made the right choice with the Rapoo C270L webcam. (more…)

Beginner’s Guide to Building a Dedicated Streaming PC

Dedicated Streaming PC

My 6-year-old computer has been showing its age for a good while now. It has an Intel Core i7 4790K processor and an NVIDIA GTX 970 graphics card. I want to stream games like Cyberpunk 2077 that require high system requirements due to having buggy and unoptimized engines. That got me thinking about building a dedicated streaming PC to lighten the load. While it’s not the most cost-effective solution, it can be an effective solution nonetheless. (more…)

Motion Inputs Are NOT Stupid, Competitive Games Need Physicality

Motion Inputs in Fighting Games

A decade or two ago, it was participation trophies. But that wasn’t enough, kids were still crying about their uselessness. Now, well-meaning idiot adults are now thinking about making sports and games less difficult, thus lowering the barrier of entry. Despite good intentions, this is the opposite of what’s good for competition. After all, a video game is only as fun as its reward—the result of being able to achieve what takes practice to successfully accomplish. (more…)

It’s Not a Sin to Feel

Crying CM Punk Fan

Let’s talk about pro wrestling since I’ve been getting more into it lately. While I’m a commentator for a local wrestling promotion, I’m not that big of a pro wrestling fan, or at least not as invested in it as my colleagues. I’m more of a combat sports fan, which informs my way of thinking in pro wrestling. But despite how ridiculous it can be in the bigger picture, people can be quite passionate about it. With AEW All Out 2021 close at hand, let’s talk about its centerpiece. (more…)

My 2021 PC Upgrades

PC Upgrades and Components

It’s that time once again to have at least two particular tabs open on my browser—my bank account and the computer store website. After a good bit of pondering and perusing, I’ve come to my final list for what PC upgrades I shall introduce into my life. Hopefully, the major components will be procured as early as the start of July (EDIT: I may delay it to August or September), just in time for my birthday. (more…)

Becoming Prolific: My System of Content Creation

Content Creation

This whole Avoiderdragon thing has been kept alive to give me a reason to exist. I have to pay for domain and hosting every year, and I barely publish blog posts here. I can keep justifying it with various excuses, but the only good way to truly make it worth the effort and expense is to actually become prolific with content creation. This is how I will do it. (more…)

The Need for Typing Speed: Beginner’s Guide to Faster Typing

Typing Speed

One of the things I’ve recently gotten into is mechanical keyboard switches. While I don’t have enough disposable income right now to indulge in buying elaborate pieces of plastic to put in jars, it did lead me to improving my typing speed. It was always something I thought I’d be stuck in, even though it’s pretty much what I do for a living. (more…)

Effortless Excellence Messes With Us

Daigo Umehara

Here’s another blog post to continue on the topic of The Revolving Door—that door many people enter to pursue a dream vocation only for most of them to exit it. That blog post was and still is an absolute mess, but perhaps I was looking towards the wrong direction. It’s not about how to climb the mountain, but what makes us want to climb it in the first place. Some people don’t get past the initial spark and the dip afterwards, while a handful are able to climb out of that dip and continue their progress. (more…)
