This whole Avoiderdragon thing has been kept alive to give me a reason to exist. I have to pay for domain and hosting every year, and I barely publish blog posts here. I can keep justifying it with various excuses, but the only good way to truly make it worth the effort and expense is to actually become prolific with content creation. This is how I will do it. One of the things I’ve recently gotten into is mechanical keyboard switches. While I don’t have enough disposable income right now to indulge in buying elaborate pieces of plastic to put in jars, it did lead me to improving my typing speed. Here’s another blog post to continue on the topic of The Revolving Door—that door many people enter to pursue a dream vocation only for most of them to exit it. That blog post was and still is an absolute mess, but perhaps I was looking towards the wrong direction. It’s not about how to climb the mountain, but what makes us want to climb it in the first place. Some people don’t get past the initial spark and the dip afterwards, while a handful are able to climb out of that dip and continue their progress. (more…)
Nothing is truly for everyone. There are always barriers of entry. The higher the barrier, the more people wish to enter, and the less people actually do so. For the rest, they go back out the revolving door. Most of them tend to not understand the exact reason for their forced exit, and they tend to blame others for faults that happen to be their own. This is a late post that may no longer be that relevant, I admit. I was supposed to post this after BlizzConline, but the past two weeks were a blur for me. However, I realized that I still had much to say about the sequel to my 2016 GOTY, so I had to finish writing this. While I have to admit that I’m actually hyped about what Blizzard is doing in Overwatch 2, I’m also quite skeptical about what it’ll do for their newest franchise. (more…)
It does seem like I tend to spend my year-end holidays playing open world RPGs. In 2015, it was Fallout 4, which kept me occupied for two to three weeks. In 2019, it was The Outer Worlds, which I played non-stop for two weeks. Most recently, Cyberpunk 2077 has taken over my life, and it’s still incredibly fun more than a month later. (more…)
As you read this, you might’ve heard the news by now. Wall Street is currently in chaos, even more so than the #OccupyWallStreet protests of almost ten years ago. While that consisted of picketing and civil disobedience, which could be curtailed and discouraged by police action, this unprecedented event in Wall Street history is done by turning their weapons against them, thanks to an online community called WallStreetBets. Never mind the obvious—this game is indeed unfinished and broken. So were many of my favorite games upon release—Arcanum, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and many more. For all the time there was available in the Year of Our Lord 2020, I didn’t play that many games. Not only have games become more and more expensive, but more and more of them are harder to run on this five-year-old computer. But I can say that every game I did get to play that year was a meaningful experience. They were the silver lining on the dark cloud that was 2020, a year that shall long live in infamy. (more…)
My COVID-19 quarantine experience so far has been dominated by this game. Through all the anxiety, forced seclusion, and helplessness, I’ve spent much of that time killing demons and traversing obstacles in a game that was made to feel like a game. It’s undeniably a strong Game of the Year candidate for 2020, even if it’s not as perfect as I had hoped. (more…)
Last month, I found this documentary on YouTube about one of my favorite combat sports commentators. I couldn’t help but expressed my thoughts on my Facebook profile after viewing it in whole. Having become a pro wrestling commentator myself, going through the struggles to get better in serving as a voice for Manila Wrestling Federation, I’ve become more attentive to the art of sports announcing. But this film was more than just about that.

It’s that time of the year, but I haven’t played enough games this year to put up a list of my top ten games for 2019. I’ve been busy with work, commentating for Manila Wrestling Federation, and dealing with life. It hasn’t been the best year for me, but it was also a reflective year.
