Should I Abandon WordPress?

Should I Abandon WordPress?

For years, I’ve been mulling over changing the web design of this crummy blog of mine. I got it to a point where it looks fairly decent, but I still have to struggle with it every now and then. Usually, YouTube embeds stretch out the mobile version, in which case I have to mess around with the CSS again to fix it. But now, with these new developments, I’m pondering on abandoning WordPress — my content management system of choice for over a decade — because its creator and founder has lost his mind. (more…)

What is Avoider.net?

Avoiderdragon Logo 2022

Even after the rebranding, I’ve been struggling to write more on this blog because I still couldn’t figure out what Avoider.net should be about. It has always been about my interests, but most of those interests seem banal now, especially now that I’m entering my late 30s. I want to write things that will be helpful and relevant even after many years, and I’ve already done that with some of the posts here. However, I know I can do more, so I’ll take this chance to figure out what this thing should really be about. (more…)

Rebranding to Avoider.net Before 2023

Avoider.net Rebrand

This online thing I have has been going on for more than ten years now. It’s a hobby at best and I just like having it around to focus on whenever I don’t have anything else going on. While I haven’t gotten any significant traction throughout the years, that wasn’t the point of this whole thing. However, as time passes and I get more weighed down by responsibilities, catching more eyeballs becomes more imperative. After all, since I spend quality time pouring my soul into this thing at my leisure, perhaps it’s time I consider doing it seriously for once. (more…)

I Have to Make Up My Mind on What This Blog is About

Avoiderdragon Logo 2022

I’ve had this blog on this domain for around ten years now. I originally put this up to keep sharp both my writing and web design skills. Nowadays, I’m not sure anymore why I still keep it up since I haven’t been able to make anything out of it for a whole decade. However, I’m not ready to give up on it just yet, but I do have to start whittling it down to the bare essentials so I can actually do more with it for less and without being overwhelmed. (more…)

Mulling Over Changing Review Scores

Reviews: Good or Bad?

Reviews on this blog seem like a farce now, or at least I think so. I try to make them as comprehensive and systematic as possible, but I also get lazy with writing each one and don’t do enough of them. When I think about a lot of the old reviews, I feel regret. In this blog post, I talk about rethinking my review process, wanting to change scores of past reviews, and coming to terms with being bad at this critique thing. (more…)

End of 2018 State of Affairs

Cuphead going eww

Time for another update post. The gap between the most recent post and what came before it is almost four months. That gap is due to life getting the best of me, and it’s becoming clear that I’m not making the most of what I pay to keep this website self-hosted. It’s not too serious, but it’s enough for me to want a change in my life. This is me trying to figure out what happened, what went wrong, and what can be done in the future. (more…)

AVDR 2018 Blogging and Video Plans

AVDR 2017

Alright, so it’s that time again to make promises and see if they can be kept. I should keep these as realistic and grounded as possible, but that also may have me running the risk of putting my goals too low, which can be just as detrimental as not fulfilling them at all. Since things seem to be going quite well for me right now at the beginning of 2018, I should aim just a bit higher than what’s advisable in order to get this blog and everything else to another level by the end of this auspicious year. (more…)

New Hosting Yet Again and 2018 Plans

AVDR 2017

Every December, I have to deal with keeping this website up, paying for domain and hosting. I agonized on whether I should still pay for hosting or migrate this blog to Medium, and I ended up staying with hosting. However, I’ve since made some changes and put certain measures in place to secure this blog’s future as I plan to hopefully ramp things up for 2018. I’m sure I’ve done this over and over again year after year, but things really have been looking up as 2017 is about to end. (more…)

Switch to Medium or Stick with Web Hosting?

Switch to Medium or Stick with Web Hosting?

Running this site, amid all the delays and procrastination in making content, is something that keeps me from giving up on life itself. The extent with which I’ve made it manifest is such that I have to somehow post something at least once or twice per month since I actually pay money every month to keep it up. However, this time around, I’m at a crossroads as I may have to give up on that due to money being tight and having less time to deal with the web development. Should I switch to Medium? (more…)

Reviews Going Forward in 2017

Reviews: Good or Bad?

In a bid to get more into content creation for the Avoiderdragon brand, I realized that I should bank on my strengths. One of those is doing reviews, which I’ve always done well enough over the years. However, I don’t do enough of them and I’ve never really figured out and fully put down my review standards. Therefore, I’ve decided on a few things regarding my reviews going forward as I’ve been unsatisfied with how things are right now. (more…)

January 2017 Update

AVDR 2017

Here’s the first update of the new year, mostly for the YouTube channel. Not too much detail here about future plans as they should be revealed only when they’re actually done, but there are a few things I should mention in advance to make you aware of new things being put to action right now in January 2017. I’m making sure not to overextend myself, but these plans have been in the works since last year. (more…)

December 2016 Update

Avoiderdragon

There hasn’t been new content for over two weeks now, so I should give a bit of an update. More stuff is coming in December and I’m using the time left in 2016 to prepare for grinding harder and faster in 2017. In the meantime, I’ve had some problems to deal with, and they’re not pretty. It mostly has to do with the one thing that lets me keep this whole thing going—the Internet connection. (more…)
