Motion Inputs Are NOT Stupid, Competitive Games Need Physicality

Motion Inputs in Fighting Games

A decade or two ago, it was participation trophies. But that wasn’t enough, kids were still crying about their uselessness. Now, well-meaning idiot adults are now thinking about making sports and games less difficult, thus lowering the barrier of entry. Despite good intentions, this is the opposite of what’s good for competition. After all, a video game is only as fun as its reward—the result of being able to achieve what takes practice to successfully accomplish. (more…)

StarCraft HD and the Pitfalls of Updating a Classic

StarCraft HD rumors

Since Blizzard doesn’t seem to be refuting the rumors as of this writing, perhaps StarCraft HD is indeed about to become a reality. As good as StarCraft II may be, it’s still overshadowed by the legacy of Brood War and its storied reign as the king of real-time strategy for 14 years. But with this recent development, it seems that Blizzard is acknowledging the enormity of StarCraft: Brood War‘s legacy, thus updating the game to run better on newer systems. Relive StarCraft Brood War for Free with Mass Recall

StarCraft: Mass Recall

While I’m writing a script for what will hopefully be a full StarCraft II review video (I really have to start making more videos), I look back at the story of the first StarCraft and its expansion Brood War. Space Colony: Steam Edition

The release of HD remasters of old games may be grumbled at by some as unnecessary and even distractions getting in the way of developing brand new titles. However, there are plenty of good games, both mainstream legends and hidden gems of the past, that do deserve to be enjoyed by a new generation. I don’t know if Space Colony: Steam Edition is one of them, but maybe someone out there can appreciate it, especially those who are into building and management games. (more…)

Rymdkapsel (Mobile) [Review]

This game had been out for the PS Vita for quite some time, but I waited for the release of the iOS and Android versions to play it with a touch screen. The simplistic visuals belies the deep gameplay that all mobile gamers should experience at least once. But then again, it’s not easy to play only once. (more…)

StarCraft II: Problems with PvT – Entry 01

Terran — my biggest problem in StarCraft II as a Protoss player. Filthy Terrans keep beating me, even when I started to discover the power of Templars. It should be easy since Terran can only go bio in Wings of Liberty. However, between stim timings and marine-tank pushes, I’ve been powerless against such onslaught. This is my journey towards learning how to fight against the Terran menace. (more…)
