Battlefield 1 Open Beta First Impressions

For once, I actually get to the open beta of a game and actually make a video out of it, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for this blog for quite a while now. Then again, this is a AAA game, so it wasn’t that hard to remember to get into it. It was also not that big since it’s just a multiplayer preview available for a week, so it was just bells and whistles and wasn’t hard to download at all. Battlefield 1 was met with skepticism, but I have to say it could actually bring the Battlefield franchise back from the heaping pile of failure it had been in recent years (commercially successful but technically unsound). Putting out an update video when the YouTube channel barely has anything may seem ill-advised since there’s barely anything to update on or require any sort of housekeeping. It does end up being about promises to upload more videos, but I did have to start somewhere. Since I’ve been trying to take content creation more seriously, even with YouTube attempting to impose its own PG era, then I might as well go all out and “fake it till I make it.” (more…)

Suicide Squad — Commit Sudoku [Review]

Continuing the DC streak (because I failed to review Captain America: Civil War), Suicide Squad seems to have as divisive as the new Ghostbusters, or maybe more as critics have been panning it. Perhaps they still have Batman v Superman in their minds and Marvel to compare cinematic successes with. Suicide Squad does deserve a fair viewing befitting its hype, which isn’t as much of an oxymoron as some of you would like to think. (more…)

Since Blizzard doesn’t seem to be refuting the rumors as of this writing, perhaps StarCraft HD is indeed about to become a reality. As good as StarCraft II may be, it’s still overshadowed by the legacy of Brood War and its storied reign as the king of real-time strategy for 14 years. But with this recent development, it seems that Blizzard is acknowledging the enormity of StarCraft: Brood War‘s legacy, thus updating the game to run better on newer systems. In the first part of my “redeem myself for giving Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis a 6/10” series of Spring 2016 anime reviews, I tackle something Wit Studio churned out from the carcass of its slowly decomposing reputation. Okay, that’s an exaggeration for the sake of humor, but there’s some legitimate concern due to the wait for the second season of Attack on Titan. I was fine with Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress at first—excited even—but I later saw why this show got a good bit of hate from a lot of people. (more…)

What I came up with is more of a plea to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. In this case, I was able to play one that I quite liked, which is certainly not Pokemon GO that has just been released and is taking the Internet by storm as of this writing. It has been over a month since his passing and I felt the need to share some of the material that helped me know more about Muhammad Ali as a person. Being someone who was born when he was already well past his boxing days, the only thing I could really do was watch his matches, interviews, and documentaries about his life during my formative years in the 2000s. I was able to do so with the power of the Internet, and it helped me appreciate and learn from such a remarkable man, both in and out of the ring. (more…)

After tons of hype and a fairly extensive beta period (as well as a minor controversy concerning the fictional depiction of female buttocks), the much-anticipated new game by Blizzard finally came out. It has been almost a week since the release of Overwatch, and it’s currently making the folks over at Gearbox Software have sweaty palms (and hopefully with Randy Pitchford unable to sleep at night). While it’s given that this may be a bit too late for just a first impressions post and I should put out a review already, I still have to put this up to wrap my head around my thoughts about this game.
