In a concerted effort to create more content in the style of video essays that I love watching so much, here is one I made for Overwatch, specifically the new character Sombra. I have to admit that it’s not the most solid of videos I could’ve made as it doesn’t even scratch the surface and may have gotten some things wrong in it. This post is indeed late since this video was posted the week before, garnering a significant number of views compared to previous videos. The review video is taking me quite a while (as of this writing), and it has been weeks since this game came out, but I like it more than enough to trudge through this review for it. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is certainly a Deus Ex game in terms of proportion between its strengths and flaws. For the most part, it has retained most of what makes a Deus Ex game what it is, but the gameplay feels less clunky. However, the narrative itself is just as clunky, so fans should feel right at home. (more…)
So it has been months since Overwatch officially came out, and I haven’t been playing it as much as I should. But within my limited play time, I’ve only gotten competent with three heroes—D.Va, Soldier 76, and Junkrat. Despite my best efforts, I consciously feel the limits of these characters during gameplay, and those limits are getting worse over time. Perhaps it’s due to lack of practice, but I think that can also be remedied by practicing with more challenging characters like Tracer. (more…)
For once, I actually get to the open beta of a game and actually make a video out of it, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for this blog for quite a while now. Then again, this is a AAA game, so it wasn’t that hard to remember to get into it. It was also not that big since it’s just a multiplayer preview available for a week, so it was just bells and whistles and wasn’t hard to download at all. Battlefield 1 was met with skepticism, but I have to say it could actually bring the Battlefield franchise back from the heaping pile of failure it had been in recent years (commercially successful but technically unsound). Since Blizzard doesn’t seem to be refuting the rumors as of this writing, perhaps StarCraft HD is indeed about to become a reality. As good as StarCraft II may be, it’s still overshadowed by the legacy of Brood War and its storied reign as the king of real-time strategy for 14 years. But with this recent development, it seems that Blizzard is acknowledging the enormity of StarCraft: Brood War‘s legacy, thus updating the game to run better on newer systems. This video may have been ill-advised as I decided to do it out of a whim after seeing so many people showing some form of contempt for Pokemon GO, as many do when something becomes popular all of a sudden. What I came up with is more of a plea to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. As you may have noticed on this blog, there aren’t a lot of posts concerning mobile games. There are some, but they’re not what tended to be massively popular at the moment (excluding the Clash Royale review). In this case, I was able to play one that I quite liked, which is certainly not Pokemon GO that has just been released and is taking the Internet by storm as of this writing. Everyone wants to hate on the usual suspects like Bastion, but Reinhardt is more consistent as the guy you must hate in Overwatch. I swear he’s getting his dick sucked behind that shield, and that smugness needs to be wiped out from the face of the earth. If ever the shield goes and you’re close, he can stun you with his ultimate, then swing that hammer like he’s slapping a ho with his cock. (more…)
After tons of hype and a fairly extensive beta period (as well as a minor controversy concerning the fictional depiction of female buttocks), the much-anticipated new game by Blizzard finally came out. It has been almost a week since the release of Overwatch, and it’s currently making the folks over at Gearbox Software have sweaty palms (and hopefully with Randy Pitchford unable to sleep at night). While it’s given that this may be a bit too late for just a first impressions post and I should put out a review already, I still have to put this up to wrap my head around my thoughts about this game. This post was only worked on four days after the video was made, but at least I’ve had a bit more time to think about what I like and don’t like about this game, especially without the rose-tinted glasses. There’s much to dig through with this game, especially with all the bad impressions the multiplayer beta gave. It turns out that the singleplayer is indeed good and fun to play, so I guess the beta only served to sow seeds of doubt about the new DOOM needlessly. (more…)
