Oxhorn — Telling the Stories of the Fallout Franchise

Oxhorn

There are a number of YouTube channels out there focused on either a specific game, franchise, publisher, or genre. I call them “game coverage channels,” which are great for those with more specific tastes in games. In this case, Oxhorn is a Fallout channel, which already makes it interesting for a CRPG fan like me. However, what makes this one stand out among its counterparts is its sheer quality. (more…)

Geek Day 2017 — Still an Okay Time, I Guess

Geek Day

A week after vlogging Cosplay Mania 2017, I felt confident enough to do more event coverage. It just so happened there was indeed another one the following week in SMX. Geek Day 2017 was a smaller and more intimate event, focused on things I’m more into. On paper, that seemed like a good way for me to make up for not vlogging AsiaPop Comicon. While I did take a bit longer to finish than Cosplay Mania 2017 due to work and procrastination, I did learn a few things on how to cover events I didn’t plan in advance to attend. (more…)

Cosplay Mania 2017 — Hit and Miss

Cosplay Mania

The event ended up being a mixed bag, it seems. Cosplay Mania 2017 was alright, as far as my experience is concerned. However, plenty of reports suggest they had plenty of problems during those two days. Perhaps it was bound to happen when they tried to do just a bit more than in previous years, or maybe something in their planning went down the drain sometime during the event. Whatever went wrong there, I may have circumvented most of them through both opting for a silver ticket (I bought a gold ticket last year) and just sheer luck. (more…)

MWF Road to Fate — Near Perfect Amid Compromise

MWF Road to Fate

It took me almost two weeks to finish all the content related to this event, from the match videos with commentary, the vlog with me discussing behind-the-scenes stuff on my end, and to this very blog post. While I do want to explain in detail why I took ye olde sweet time to make a post about MWF Road to Fate, all I should really do here is warn you that this blog post is half a rant and half a biased review of this wrestling event. After all, I worked in the event as well. (more…)

Mayweather vs. McGregor — Kid Gloves

Mayweather vs. McGregor

With the announcement of Mayweather vs. McGregor, I had planned to write about it here. Never mind how it has been a circus show with a ton of dosh on the line, it was still a circus show. Since it did happen anyway, let’s do something most aren’t willing to do—take it (kind of) seriously. Conor did something most wouldn’t, and Mayweather did what he needed to even at 40 to bring his record up to 50-0. I watched it (because I had to) and it was entertaining while it lasted. I then turned off the stream as soon as the referee stopped the fight. (more…)

Dunkirk — Connecting Dots [Review]

Dunkirk

As with most media featuring World War II as the setting, I had to take a look at this film. There are also two Winston Churchill biopics this year, and I may get to them later this year. But whatever they may be, I’m willing to bet that this film by Christopher Nolan can still blow them out of the water as it’s perhaps one of the best treatments of a WW2 event I’ve seen in cinema thus far. (more…)

Bathos, Sincerity, and Viewing Precaution

Doctor Strange donning the Cloak of Levitation

There’s this thing with Marvel movies I couldn’t put my finger on until now. I had previously reviewed Doctor Strange and thought that while it was good, it wasn’t the best and was even generic in tone. It seems that there’s something about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s signature style of storytelling that combines seriousness with levity, which worked for a good while. However, something recently came up that may put a damper on its current and upcoming films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming. (more…)

Spider-Man: Homecoming — Laying Eggs [Review]

Spider-Man: Homecoming

How many more Spider-Man movies should we get? At this point, I’d expect the webslinger to actually lay eggs, but that’s exactly what this film actually does as far as Spidey goes. With Marvel actually having a hand in Spider-Man: Homecoming instead of Sony just hogging it all for themselves, we finally get one that’s going to be a part of a larger continuity. The creative decisions taken with it were interesting, and the future of this Peter Parker is indeed promising. (more…)

GameCon PH 2017 — Just Games, Nothing Less

GameCon Philippines

This is the first official event coverage for the blog, so I was looking forward to it for a good while. I haven’t been able to attend other local gaming-related events such as ESGS and Pinoy Gaming Festival, so I saw this as my chance at catching up. While I’m only able to publish a post about it already a week after the fact, I was able to put together a video tour of GameCon PH as coverage. (more…)

Wonder Woman — Blows It Early, But Still Good [Review]

Wonder Woman

There was a bit of a struggle in writing this Wonder Woman film review, thus the long-ass time it took for me to post this. Not only was it because I wanted to do a review video as well, but also because I had to dig deep inside of me to write this without offending sensibilities. It was so tempting to make allusions to “premature ejaculation” in describing my viewing experience. It was not I who blew my load early, but the film itself. I sincerely apologize for being crass there. (more…)

MWF Republika — Freedom and Progress

MWF Republika

Up against what could be a sophomoric jinx, Manila Wrestling Federation came up with a card that had less gimmicks and fancy stipulations, depending more on better booking and building storylines to carry things through. There are still some stumbles (like me announcing the wrong guy again), but there is indeed significant progress. With that progress comes freedom to do more things that can make for better shows in the future. (more…)

GameCon Philippines 2017 Preview — Lead by the Hand

GameCon Philippines

It’s being pushed as the biggest gaming convention in the Philippines. GameCon Philippines is a 3-day gaming convention taking place on July 7-9, 2017 at SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 2. The first day features a conference and workshop for game developers and artists, then an exhibit and trade show takes place on the next two days. (more…)
